Depends on vendor' choice.

SHA1 of combo of MAC,HDD etc.

Try using a Virtual Machine...

Hints:
a. To use a virtual machine and install the software there, you will be able to see that only then will the software run again even though the trial has finished.
It all starts again! ;)

b. Try to get Flexlm's SDK similar at your victim. (please similar!)
