What I know, the VLK version didn't need any activation methode.
But, when the "known" ID is detected, Windows just act weird and need to be activated, again. The easy way is to change the serial #. What Peter[Pan] told is the way to change it with the proper key.

peleon 07-08-2004 16:08

I tried a little program called "Win XP Activator Crack" that makes Windows believe that it's activated. It worked!

I was also able to update. Dont know about the efficiency of this crack.

be careful use "640" serials

gabri3l 07-09-2004 02:16

Yes for SP2 you need a 640 PID. In SP1, Windows XP will fail to install on installations of Windows with one of the following product IDs: XXXXX-640-0000356-23XXX and XXXXX-640-2001765-23XXX and the corporate version beginning with FCKGW. Now it looks like any keys without a 640 PID will fail. Using MSkey4in1 (google) you can easily generate a 640 PID. But when using or generating a 640 key make sure you don't fall into the already banned SP1 range.

what about XXXXX-642-0645805-XXXXX product ids?
my key begins with YVGKQ. seems to work

gabri3l 07-10-2004 01:29

I have heard some people installing with a 642 and 648, Some keys fall in that range. But here is the basis of the keys. (I am using someone elses explanation) If you use pirated or legit xp pro vlks check your product ID and your xp product code will look something like this: 55274-64X-XXXXXXX-XXXXX. Look at the ID as this: AAAAA-BBB-CCCCCCC-DDEEE. A is the product code. BBB is a significant number to the private key. C is the least significant of the private key. DD is the private algorithm key used to verify the 25 digit key. EEE is a random digit that changes each install, this is how activation remains random. BBB-CCCCCCC is your hidden product id, which will be within the above stated range if you use a legit microsoft created key. So some xp keys in the 64x range work just out of random luck but if you do not own a legit XP, the safest bet is to look for MSkey4in1 and gen a new 640 key.

Edit: It seems that issued keys from MS are 640-0005xxx to 640-0006xxx so when using MSkey to gen a key choose Windows XP Pro VLK and set the range as 640-500 to 640-600.

[courtasy of wzor, iexbeta, n1n0r... and beyond? :D ]

Gosh. That list has a rather striking resemblance to the one posted on Worz.net yesterday. ;)

Regards,

gabri3l 07-16-2004 03:13

Which was first posted on iexbeta about 2 weeks ago. :) I think it is safe to assume that now everyone here knows what to change their key to, and how to do it.

JMI 07-16-2004 03:59

And some of us actually have a legitimate key that doesn't need changing. Sometimes one can even talk M$ into giving a "real" key. ;)

And gabri3l, the thread on ieXbeta may have been "started" on May 23, 2004, but the list they show there (as seen above) was posted by qapman on July 15, 2004 with a clickable link to the Worz.net page that was posted on July 14th. Credit should go where credit is due and if c4p0ne got it from there, or some other place, credit for the source should be mentioned. One would assume even Worz.net got it somewhere. ;)

I was looking at this thread. hxxp://board.iexbeta.com/ibf10/index.php?showtopic=43587 But you raise an interesting point. I wonder where the list came from in the first place.

JMI 07-16-2004 11:39

gabri3l: You are indeed correct about your earlier statement that ieXbeta seems to have had "the list" first. I just did a quick search and found this thread:

http://board.iexbeta.com/ibf10/index.php?showtopic=42017

but your thread there IS clearly earlier than this one and earlier that Worz.net's list. Bonus points for you. :D

But we both remain with the question: "Who discovered the list?" My supicion is that it is actually in the code for the SP2 update and some clever cracker managed to extract it from there. But until somebody tell, we won't know.

Well actually, (and obviously) I don't deserve credit for the above posted list. Actually, I never ask for (and usually TRY not to imply) credit for anything that I post in any of the dosen or so forums I am registered with. However, just for the record someone on IRC (irc.efnet.net) gave me the list by the name of n1n0r so I guess I should have mentioned that. :) Since probably no one knows who that guy is I figured "wtf" i'll just post it for the convenience of anyone who may have not known or who required it.

JMI 07-16-2004 16:20

No actual criticism was intended by my comments. I was just generally teasing about the similiar post on Worz.net in close proximity to your's here and then gabri3l reported a sighting before Worz posted it.

We then just speculated on who may have actually made the discovery, and you had not said, one way or the other, so we didn't know whether you made the discovery or found it some place, but hadn't said. No biggie. ;)

gabri3l 07-17-2004 07:58

Yes, please do not think I was being a smartass. You just sparked our curiosity over the origination of the list. :)
