Best Antivirus Engine

Hi!
I open this thread to rate best commercial antivirus engine

I've been using NOD32 as antivirus solution. It is fast enough and detects malware every now and then. You won't find a perfect antivirus engine as none of all will suit every single user's needs (even suiting one single user's need for protection is impossible I'd say).

In most cases you're usually better off without any AV, that's at least what I experienced.

ivanov 03-07-2010 02:00

every month the top 10 changes ...
a couple months it was Norton, and nowdays some say BitDefender...
I myself use the free AVG :-) and it's enough for me as an ordinary user.

new_profile 03-07-2010 04:46

NOD32 is for sure the fastest and for old computers that's the best AV. However, it seems that Avira has a the best detection rate.

For protection on my personal computers I recommend :-

Avira free http://www.free-av.de/en/download/download_servers.php
Malwarebytes free http://www.malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware free http://www.superantispyware.com//
Outpost 2009 free http://free.agnitum.com/

and heard good things about Comodo Internet Security http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/
but never used it personally

personally use Panda Internet Security.
i switch to them after NOD32 fails to fix/defend my pc at my office.

comodo have good firewall, but not their other product. it is good only to block any malware/trojan's internet connection.

henry_y 03-15-2010 22:54

Hmmm let's see NOD32, Kaspersky and dr. Web. I think those 3 are good

Molasar 03-15-2010 23:23

AVG heuristics is very good, but in overall detection Kaspersky is the best.
Panda is very resource hungry.

Loki 03-16-2010 00:11

Have never used one..... being careful and staying up to date with patches is much better imho

BoB 03-16-2010 02:59

I can't stand AV running on my system, usually they delete perfectly good packed files for no reason
Anyway, I can always tell if something dodgy is on my system, real crackers don't need AV tools ;)

@Bob
Don't forget this:
Always there's someone clever than you...

JMI 03-16-2010 09:15

And, more often, more than one. :D

Regards,

brainshit 03-16-2010 17:31

For windows xp vm : avira prof.
on host (snow leopard) : none :D

regards

cybercoder 03-16-2010 23:43

i have never used anti virus products, they slow your system down.. Just better to get latest patches and be careful ;) Some of the newer ones use the anti virus programs flaws to infect your system.. Also better to turn off unused services on your system too.. no ports open no doors..

mantovano 03-17-2010 01:48

@ cybercoder

Ummm, A bunker?

Doors are to go in and also, to go out...

heXer 03-17-2010 17:51

ahmadmansoor 03-17-2010 22:16

Good to see u again :) ..I hope every thing go will with u .
we didn't see any new stuff from u , maybe u r busy ,I think .
anyway welcome again my friend .and cya around .
for me Avira is the best .

gunterg 03-19-2010 06:17

Why not test Cloud Antivirus by Panda?

doskey 03-19-2010 14:19

I didn't use any AV product... But I like kaspersky engine.

neogen 03-19-2010 22:59

I think its NOD32. Its fast and never fails for me :)

kunam 03-23-2010 16:19

'am using Kaspersky for over 3 years and so far it's working very well for me

robin 03-24-2010 21:53

I recommend kaspersky internet secuirty

byvs 03-25-2010 03:28

I recommend Trend Micro Internet Security

Jay 03-25-2010 06:54

Think I only ever had one virus in 20 years of using a computer and that was before I had av installed. I do have AVG Free installed these days and never had a problem with it.

codeX 03-25-2010 16:08

I would say Kaspersky. I used to be a big fan of NOD32 but it's taking up a lot of resources now.

mdyaser 03-28-2010 08:14

in the past I used Kaspersky but today I have Avira Premium Security Suite....
I see it fast and reliable

ZeNiX 03-29-2010 09:37

I have been using NOD32 2.x for several years.

NOD32 3.x and 4.x gets fat and slow.
And then, I started to use AVAST 4.x on some of my machines.
It worked fine for me, except that it gives too many false alarm on packed files.

Now, I used Kaspersky on most of my computers.
Kaspersky was very slow before.
But now, it is faster and friendly.

I am interested in AVAST 5.0 as well.
But I would wait and see for the time being.

/SLiCER/ 03-30-2010 02:36

I have NOD32 4.x Security Suite, before I used NOD I used Avast Home Premium but, personally, I much prefer NOD32 for all round protection :D

vrclr27 03-31-2010 18:31

I think that M$ scanner is not so bad at all. It runs smoothly even on a netbook

memo-5 04-02-2010 09:59

Rec AV

I also recommend Trend Micro Internet Security.

ycloud 04-03-2010 15:56

I recommend norton Symantec.AntiVirus

I don't recommend the home edition (my 0.02cts), however the business product (Symantec Endpoint Protection) is quite good.

Krato 04-04-2010 23:02

Well, first hi to all people here.

then, about wich is the best comercial antivirus I think that Kaspersky is th best. Easy, fast (don't slow your pc). But it's very dificult to get a key for long time.

Then in my House I use NoD. Its really good too and it's very easy to get new licenses everywhere.

In my work we use Panda, but its very slow. And McAffe it's so simply to break.

Then I think that kaspersky and NoD are the best comercial antivirus at the momment.

Coderess 04-08-2010 03:53

I think best AV it's McAfee. Bestest among freesoftware AVs it's Avira.

Chobitx 04-08-2010 15:03

I have tried almost all the anti-virus out there, still nothin beats Kaspersky :)

Fyyre 04-08-2010 22:53

I recommend either NOD32, or Dr. Web.

Vivaldi 04-08-2010 23:07

I like Avira Premium Security Suite (new version 10 have some bug on my computer) and Norton™ Internet Security.

zaniva 04-09-2010 18:36

nod32 and Avira

For commercial my vote goes to NOD32 and fir free AVs definitely it's Avira.

SaNX 04-11-2010 15:08

Maybe Ikarus? On virustotal site it's detects new viruses when kaspersky for example not detects :)

!k-0t1c! 04-12-2010 06:50

If you're not doing a lot of nasty stuff, Prevx can be very effective at stopping threats. It's quite proactive and thus will stop most unknown and possibly malicious files from running, plus it's very good at cleaning up existing malware (that alone imo would justify its cost). If you're using the PC for active development or better yet for IT security research Prevx will get in your way far too much to tolerate it. In that case AVIRA + ClamAV for Windows (connected to Immunet) will be a pretty safe setup, if you keep your box properly patched and configured.
