RIP hutch-- (MASM32 SDK Creator)

Hello folks I have bad news.

Steve Hutchesson (a.k.a hutch--), the creator of MASM32 SDK and MASM32 Forums, has passed away. I am so much sad, I have been in the community for a long time. Rest in peace old friend!

One of his neigbours has written this to forum:
Quote:

Very sad to report the news but I am reliably informed that Hutch passed away last night. He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few weeks ago. He did return home briefly from hospital but was soon readmitted and spent his last days back there in their care. Steve will be greatly missed in the street by all his friends and neighbours. He really was part of the Surry Hills landscape. I believe his mother had lived in the house before him so even those of us who are approaching 20 years as residents felt like relative newcomers. He would regularly wander up and down our quiet street to give his eyes a rest from programming. Hopefully someone has access to his files so the community he built here can continue but I am not really across that. RIP Steve, Richard

It is really sad to learn of the passing of another legend. This is the second time in a month that we have lost someone who has made a wonderful mark on our world. He was a brilliant programmer and his work has a lasting impact on our community.

May hutch's soul find eternal peace and happiness.

Hi,

this year, the old beta version has already received the release candidate status

I have posted an updated version in the first post in this topic. It has some extra equates in the win64.inc file, the CodeEdit project in the examples. Make sure you run this SFX file from the root directory of the partition you are installing the SDK on.

This is very close to a release version. It has a new editor as well as QE which is a full 64 bit version. It is called "teditor.exe" and has been intentionally written to look and work like QE. It is both faster and has a far larger capacity and in the case where I may need to modify it or add bits to it, its a modern 64 bit architecture of the type that I am currently writing so its straight forward enough to maintain.

You will need to supply or get hold of WIN32.hlp and there is a menu option to help you set it up. A download link for the Intel manuals on the help menu which is very useful for finding instructions.

Also note that the old help file WIN32.HLP is not included as the version I have is 24 megabytes in size. If you have a copy or know where to get one, put it in the "help" directory as it is already installed on the help menu and F1 will work with it.

INSTALLATION
You run this SFX file from the root directory of the partition you want to install the SDK on. What you must end up with is a directory straight off the root directory called "masm64". If you move the installation to any other location on the partition, it will NOT WORK. If you already have an installation of the SDK on the partition, slightly rename it as this SFX is not designed to overwrite an existing installation.

The EXE is a self extractor made with Winrar.

Feedback would be useful, I don't need design information but if anything is broken, it will help to make a later release version better.

Unfortunately no one can replace him. After all, he had a special style of writing code and a special vision for the development of the project :(

@mak

In this thread on MASM32 Forums, I have offered to community to create an organization on github(or gitlab) and continue developing sdk.

I am waiting because community might not have solved some administrative and financial problems yet. Also there is a guy called vasily who had written -nearly- all of the macros for masm64 sdk. I still do not have direct connection with him. I have to get permission from him to publish his and hutch--'s work.

I will inform Exetools community about this issue. And if i take the responsibility i will ask you for your contributions

Stay well!

RIP Hutch. Your work will be used for years to come and you leave a wonderful legacy.

It's very sad, but we have to save the content. Many forums have been completely lost (sysinternals, wasm.ru, kernelmode etc.). I download exelab.ru and this, and save it as html + attachments.
