here you guys go:
h++p://windows.owns.com/
f+p://winsrc:[email protected]:7755/windows_2000_source_code.zip
f+p://ftp.uni-freiburg.de/incoming/windows_2000_source_code.zip

matt 02-13-2004 17:37

Great !!!!!

Say my sincere thanks to you !

matt 02-13-2004 19:34

windows.owns.com says that there is nt4 package. But M$ said in the news that only win2k codes are leaked.

Anyone succeeds to download the nt4 package from windows.owns.com ? It's very very hard to connect the server.

Squidge 02-13-2004 23:14

The code that was leaked included both WinNT4 and Win2000 sources.

Satyric0n 02-13-2004 23:30

I am currently at 83% uploading it to the FTP, it says 37 minutes remaining. I will post here when it is finished.

ferrari 02-14-2004 01:05

The source leak has been traced to Redmond Mainsoft. Mainsoft is licenced to use the source code in its product MainWin to create native unix versions of windows applications.
M$ claims that the leaked source code does not compile into an usable Windows. M$ also rejected any potential threat and disaster.
Those who already have the source code....what do u'l have to say on this. Is there something to panick. Can this source code be used by black hats to create havoc.???!

Comments.

There's nothing to panic about, but certainly black hats will be able to use this source, even if you cant rebuild Windows as a whole.

The way this will mainly be used is to analyze code in core dlls and search for exploitable bugs (such as buffer overruns). It's much easier (and much quicker) to find problems like this looking at high-level (and possibly well documented) C code versus looking at ASM code (possibly obfuscated) in a debugger or disassembler.

There is also the possibility that though Windows as a whole can't be rebuilt with this portion of code, certain DLLs may be able to rebuilt (maybe kernel, IO, or driver related).

If that's the case, the possibilities are endless! ;)

I have finished uploading the Win2k source to the exetools FTP.

It is located in /incoming/Windows.2000.Source.Code

Thanks to those who reported and assisted in distribution of this information. A note of caution however, as it has occurred now on several occasions over the last few days.

DO NOT POST INFORMATION REGARDING THE DETAILS OF OR YOUR PROBLEMS WITH THE FTP IN ANY PLACE OTHER THAT THE "ANNOUNCEMENT AND NEWS" FORUM.

I hope this is CLEAR enough. There is a reason for this, which I have explained in another thread within the last couple of days.

Very small part...Full sources has 40GB+ :D

matt 02-14-2004 21:02

Much better than nothing. But the core kernel part is not that bigger.

Squidge 02-14-2004 21:21

40gb... and they say Windows isn't bloatware :D

Still, the 600mb of leaked source is still useful. Well, to me it is, anyway.

dj-siba 02-14-2004 21:47

40gb... is PuRE Bull$HiT... :D

escape 02-14-2004 22:35

Does this package contain NTFS source codes?

No. But it contains the LFS part. It's a pity that the NTFS's sources are not included.

I'm looking for the nt4 part. I wish it contains the NTFS part. :-))

[EDIT by JMI: zinc which part of the

NO CLICKABLE LINKS OUTSIDE THE FORUMS

Rule did you NOT understand??? PLEASE PAY ATTENTION.]

jonwil 02-23-2004 11:32

How many versions of the windows code are there?

I have seen one zip of partial windows 2000 source code
And one zip of partial (but more complete/usable) NT4 source
Any others out there?

Is the one that says "source code NT4 W2k WXP" any different from the 2 I already have?

Satyric0n 02-23-2004 13:28

The "source code NT4 W2k WXP" release (which is a .tar.bz2 file, not zip) is just a compressed Linux installation. A joke release, probably some slashdot goon thinking they're funny..

sunilt 04-28-2004 09:50

small doubt

I am not a low level programmer, but to all the people who have downloaded
win2k and nt sources.

Has it been useful in anyway, just a small doubt

foxzz81 04-28-2004 13:46

can u build it to a windows? or Compiling to a dll for windows?

yyyo 05-02-2004 17:46

Nt4 Source was useful for me.
I was need reversing NT4 MIPS version. Nt4 source contain
all what i need and more, that i dont expect.

bLACK oUT 05-03-2004 05:18

A friend of mine told me that the sourcecode includes full source for explorer. Is this information correct? Is there a chance to get the complete source of win2k?

Some sources of the w2k can be compiled and most of the nt4 can be compiled, but its more interresting to read the source, since there are plenty of tips in it which are also under windows xp useful for programming the shell.

somebody said to me: 'use the source luke'... :)

The leaked source code represents Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.

Nope, you're not getting the complete source of w2k. sorry. its not completely leaked. only one cd of stuff is leaked. so thats also interresting enough for programmers.

nuemga2000 05-04-2004 18:08

If it's only for interest, you should use the NT sources, as they are
"more complete" ...

peleon 05-06-2004 18:12

Hello, has anyone compared WinNT with W2000 code? does it change internally much as Microsoft said? ;)

Thanks
