Visual Studio .Net installation help

1 Attachment(s)
This has really aggravated me! Spent over a week downloading this and the necessary msdn files!

Ok, well I get this error message (I did install the prerequistes, and now when I click that link it gives me the error message below).

Satyric0n 03-08-2004 17:53

Err... Reboot?

I have installed VS.Net 15-20 times on various computers, and the few times I have seen this message, a simple reboot has fixed it, just as the message says.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help :(.

Regards

I have rebooted, more than once but to no avail. This is what happened before the message, execute setup.exe tells me I need various things (IIS etc) so I get them, then by accident I execute vs_setup.exe when I relise what I have done I quikcly click cancel (when it says 'Prerparing to install') then I execute setup.exe, it still says I don't have the necessary windows components (IIS etc), so I click the link to double check I got everything that is needed and it gives me that error message, so I try vs_setup.exe and it tells me I need to run setup.exe

Argh!

Don't be that upset :)
There is an option to install VS.NET without installing the prerequisites. So, you merge two disks into ONE directory --> let it be, shall we say, VS folder, EVERYTHING must go there. Then go to VS\setup directory inside. There should be a file - setup.exe. Launch it with the option setup /BSLN_NO_CHECK or sth like this, I forgot the exact option - this usually works.

nilrem i have installed VS.NET on my machine. Actually i got the CD's. But some components fail to install from the windows update CD. So the command to bypass this is.

n:\setup\Setup.exe /NO_BSLN_CHECK

How can I split the downloadable distribution to CD-version?
Do I have to download current MSDN if I have MSDN March 2000 installed?
I need to do a working CD setup.

Nilrem 03-09-2004 15:52

Ok I'll try it out Ferrari, but what about the MSDN? Where do I put them to install them?

ferrari 03-09-2004 16:40

Nlrem i got 6 installation CD's. MSDN is installed here.

D:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET\Msdn\1033

Mine is downloaded from the FTP, the readme that came with it (from the releaser) is here:

So where do I put the MSDN .img files I downloaded? They have to be installed when setup is ran right, not afterwards?

Nilrem 03-10-2004 07:01

Finally got the setup to work by running autorun.exe (setup.exe,0), however there is a load of files missing, most of them I could ignore until I came accross this (look at the jpg). Here is my setup log, btw, this VStudio .NET was downloaded from the FTP.

Spent sooo long downloading this....

Dear Nilrem

Before raising up the issues, please use the search engine on this forum and/or the web - you will be quite impressed with the volume of the information you can find.

1.Regarding the source from which you are downloading Cthere is nothing wrong as all files are complete and in perfect condition.

2.Regarding your error:
Quote:

ERROR: Error 1309.Error reading from file:...
All files do exist in source installation. Keep in mind that Microsoft Windows Explorer has limitation in creating folders (directories). If I recall, the limit is 254 characters. You have to decrease (or rename) your installation source path.

3.Regarding MSDN:
It doesnt mater when you install - before or after.
If you install MSDN before VS, you can integrate it after you complete VS installation.
If you install after VS, during the MSDN installation process it will prompt you to integrate.
Also you can find some useful info about MSDN in:

http://www.exetools.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2695

s=&threadid=2659

3.Regarding your error:
Quote:

Setup has detected that another program requires the computer..
There is no set answer for this - it can be caused by multiple issues.
One of the possible answers could be found here:
hxxp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q312444

PS: nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely.

To ferrari:

you posted to have 6 installation CDs would it be possible to list here their content as i suppose that is no secrecy. i really don't know how make a working cd set i got the same source as Nilrem, but no dvd burner here. also there's a confusion about number cdversion cds, another source claims vc2003
having only 3 cds should i care about this? i was searching google as msdn and i was really tough however no relevant result.

ferrari 03-11-2004 02:40

yeah i got 6 CD's. The 5th CD is Windows Component Update CD and the 6th is MicroSoft Visio.

I'l be back with details of the 4 main CD's ;)

Nilrem 03-11-2004 06:55
