starforce - again...
 

does anyone know anything briefly about this protection?

I've read all the related threads, but all of them are related to games (If I would have any time to play...) or in particular, applications that are "locked" to original CD.

but now I have a target with this Starforce "Frontline 3 Pro" envelope protection.. I dumped it quite easily, and just continuing, but I decided first to ask around. not that I don't have "Google subscription", but I have some reasons for doing this, namely:
- this is not a game or similar, not even in size, so no cd or anything, it is just an 1m app
- would be neat to analyse the protection, but obviously, no trial versions available at all.

hi etienne, i first time heard that there exist some target protected with starforce but not a game.
maybe your exe scaner just recognise as starforce, try to use PID (Protection id the last version)
and if you get same result please post here some link to download, to see whats hapenning, (Only .exe and nessesary .dll's to run the target), because my connection is shity for the moment :(

hi,

starforce comes in many flavors, some are disc bound, some not. there are also versions where you have a trial time of 2 hours, or where you have to activate the game/app before starting using an unique hardware key over the internet

there are some game demos, that use those trial features. there are also some executables around where the unprotected version of stolen functions is available (which is very nice to learn how sf works)

ive attached a dump of this 4.5 notepad. its basic starforce, that means starforce didnt steal any functions from the orig binary, so its very easy to unpack. would be nice to see a notepad with stolen functions :>

btw is any chanse to someone provide protector, any version of starforce?

the protectionprocess is serverbased, so you need a valid account on their protectionserver to protect anything
