Softice rebooting my machine

Hi guys,

I have recently finally switched from my trusty Win98SE to WinXP SP1. This was really painful for me, being a console/dos freak, but more and more companies stop supporting older Windows so it had to be done. Anyway, I installed DS 3.0 and usually SI works fine when I debug my own programs. Unfortunately whenever I press ctrl-d in a Direct3D game (or fullscreen DirectX, not only 3D), or when there's overlay in use (a video player for example), my machine simply reboots without any message. Can you tell me what might be the reason? I tried it once with older SI a few months back, and it was the same (I moved back to 9x at that point, now it's impossible). I'm using universal video driver just like previously in SI for 9x (which worked fine for years). It doesn't matter if I load SI at boot or start it manually. I'm using Radeon 9100 with the latest drivers, but I tried other drivers too. Anyone can help me?

I have no idea. Usually random reboots are cause by CPUs overheating.

Random? It's not random at all. If I'm on desktop or in fullscreen console/dos, I can break into softice without any problems, as many times as I want. If I run any game that will switch to Direct3D or fullscreen DirectDraw or an application that uses video overlay, whenever I try to enter softice I get a reboot. Few months back when I tried, at least I saw a BSOD before reboot, now it will simply restart after pressing ctrl-d.

Anyone here with Radeon gfx card can break into softice (inside 3D games) without any problems under XP?

I know your problem.

I had the same problem when I analyzed
MAFIA's code for coding my own trainer.

When I pressed Ctrl-D softice popped up like
usual, but when I typed sth it rebooted my
machine.

I never solved this problem.
I switched to Win98 to analyze the code.

I had that problem running on a 3dFX card but it did it
when i ran any DX game .. some drivers just dont like
si .. tried a different vid card problem went away

I hate to say it but try a search on Compuware site
to see if they offer a fix for this stating your card
