Question about CloneCD

Hi, i have a question about CloneCD, i tried to replicate a protected CD, i can make a working image of that protect CD, and it works when mounted using Alcohol, but when i burn the image onto a CD-R, the burnt CD doesnt work (app detected its not the original). any suggestions on replicating such CDs are appreciated.

PS. ProtectionID can't identify this protected CD, i dont even know what kinda protection its using.

i think that Alocohol have somethink like RMPS (Recordable Media Physical Signature) Emulation which iz correctly emulated or burned by Alcohol only if iz correctly grabed by Alcohol //

Also try hxxp://club.cdfreaks.com/

They usually have a list of what copy protections are on what program.

And also what drives can play a backed-up cd.

Are you sure this isn't just a case of the app knowing it's been burned onto a recordable CD ? Originals a generally pressed onto CD's not burned and as such, the cd isn't marked as being recordable. Usually you need to run something like clonecd and turn on the "hide cdr media" option. This prevents the app from reading the disk info and discovering that it's on a recorable cd.

This is referred to as ATIP protection .

For example:

What is ATIP and how does it work as copy protection ?

Question answered by G@M3FR3@K

Every CD-R has important info on the disc itself which is called ATIP (Absolute Time In Pre-groove) or pre-groove for short. Without this data/info the CD-R cannot be used by a writer. The ATIP contains the following info:

The capacity of the CD-R

The manufacturer of the CD-R

The type of the CD-R (eg. Audio only)

Supported writing speeds

Absolute lead-in time

Last possible address where data can be written

etc...
Only a CD-Writer can read the ATIP (because like I said before this ATIP is only needed when writing a CD-R).

The ATIP protection is based on this fact: when the game starts it checks if there's ATIP info present: if so then it will presume it's a CD-R disc and will not play.

Another way around this is to run your copy in non CDRW drive as read only drives cannot generally read ATIP info !

I hope this helps. If I've misunderstood your question, then my apologies

Wow what a crappy protection.

Star Buck 04-30-2004 11:03

ATIP isn't generally the only protection used. It's generally included in some good protection schemes like Securom. I doubt it would ever have been used on it's own.

I think that ATIP is only accessible via CDRW devices and not via CDROM's or DVDDroms.

So , automatically as we can see , ATIP is useless for a copy protection sheme.

alcohol can emulate something called RMPS something which was not grabed by CloneCD >> under Alcohol it works fine ,but when you burn it, it will not work ... because something iz missing ...

Sorry fo my bad English , iam only human :o
