warez-bb.org board has been one of the strongest community which has been there for years! Personally I like their no-porn policy which keeps the site and links clean.
Softarchive.net *used* to be one of the best boards like avaxhome, but recently it's all covered in too much of smut!
For ebooks, I use ebooks-it.org, it-ebooks.info which are good if you are looking for something specific to download. In general if you are searching for something specific, my recommendation is to download a trial (if it can be converted into a full version, not the crippled ones!), then get the keygens from one of the multiple keygen sites, 0-day scene sites and unlock the full version locally instead of downloading the full release from the warez sites!
During the rapidshare days, I used to have an archive close to 80GB of stuff (yup, mine was a paid account for more than 5 years, after which I've not taken any other membership downloading sites!) where a closed group of people (whom I met on warez boards) used to transfer stuff in need.
Also, if the software can be afforded buy it! It's the only way were we programmers live by!
Evaluate, if not the evaluation version or by using a cracked version. Benefit from it, if it fetches some money to you, but use the portion of the money to buy a legal version of the software and all the money it will generate would be guilt-free and fully enjoyable! We could also live a happy life!
