Start WinXP in save mode and try to uninstall the service pack...
This will probably only work if you have selected to backup files in the SP setup... |

Why on earth would you update your Windows XP from Microsoft unless it's legit? if you have a non-legit version you use a non-legit patch. In other words leave "windowsupdate"the fuck alone when using non-legit software from MS$.
Do you want Windows XP SP2? do a small search at this site and dld the fooker. hxxp://www.packetnews.com/search.php?kw=windows+xp+sp2&type=0 Personally i hate Windows XP and will never use it at home. Windows 2000 Is soo much better. Just my to cents anyway... :nulli |

The way of bypassing XP's WPA by patching WINLOGON.EXE is well known.
I don't know if it works on the SP2 WINLOGON;if it doesn't work, try to substitute the new version of WINLOGON with the old one. Hope it helps |

windows xp sp2 is still unofficially released, so what you got may be a beta, or some release candidates.
when beta testing softwares (especially service packs), try to do it on a different computer first before applying it to your "main" computer. but that's for the "next time". at the moment, you may try to use the recovery function in the windows xp installer to bring your system back to the old system files. warning: results are unpredictable. |

Ive been locked/my computer fucked before when i updated to sp1. I had to format, but lucky for me i found a download for a slipstreamed sp1 xp pro.
Yeah, if i do decided to move to sp2 i am going to back every little thing up, because even when stuff is legit weird shit can happen

hi,
best choice is to image your drive before the update, (Acronis true image rox) that way when things go south you can restore your original setup Best wishes R@dier |

When I used WinXP Home it happened more times (on different machines) that it locked itself, because the activation time expired.
I downloaded some guides and patches, but most of them didn't work. Finally I found a page that describes the bytes that should be altered in the winlogon.exe and it will think that the product is registered. The WinLogon.exe crack worked in all cases. Guide: 1. boot in safe mode 2. locate winlogon.exe 3. remove the one in the dllcache directory if you find it there 4. use a hex editor and change the appropriate bytes 5. reboot To obtain the exact offsets and data for point 4 search on www, different versions may need different patch. Be sure that you are using a good hex editor that just changes the bytes you are intended to change. Hiew (Hacker's view) is a good choice. If you can enable the Internet connection in safe mode (I could), you can find/download everything (patch offset/data, hiew) that is needed to use your op.system. Good luck for it, for me a full reinstallation of all the problems that I used would have taken a whole day, this patch took half an hour including the search on Internet. Not to mention the possible risk of losing valuable data when format. |

As a heads up yes you can activate win xp pro with a generated key.
I did it with a purchased copy of xp pro and after the 5th time of screwing with m$ activation for whatever reasons I generated my own activation key. I guess the updates for sp2 aren't going to work, BUT I have a bought copy so I can just update with the good key. On the unhappy note ( or my .02 cents) I won't be updating to sp2 for a bit, gotta let the cobwebs settle. The first time xp crashed was the very first m$ update on the new machine. Hope this is helpful, and if anyone wants pm me for the key generator I used. Dr Pete |

mihaliczaj, I wouldn't recommend your method to anybody, because you have locked down your xp and there is no way you can update your system with a non-comforming winlogon.exe. The patch process will simply fail due to a corrupted winlogon.exe seen by the patcher.
