I just found a site called w*w.hackthissite.org. its really great. you all should check it out

Hack This Site gives aspiring computer users a legal environment in which to test and expand their hacking skills. Put your skills to the test in a series of hacking challenges, including basic web hacking, realistic web missions, application hacking, and encryption contests. Get informed with user-submitted articles, external resources, and political activism. Get involved with the HTS newsletter. Communicate with other members in the forums or the IRC server.

One of the things that may have caught your eye was the "application hacking". You download a file and you have to find out the serial, using many tactics, getting harder by level. I got thru level 2 just a minute ago. no problem! and i have minimal knowlegde of cracking.
I'd be curious to see how good you all are, and maybe test your own knowledge.
But as said, this site is good for all types of hacking. Have fun!

My friend owns that site. I am glad you enjoy it. We are always working on new missions and new ideas to try out. Been kind of hard the last couple weeks, been changing hosts.

In my opinion the realistic missions are the funniest, followed by application levels. I am working on a new application level that's going to be pretty dam hard.

If you're looking to break into computers then go to hxxp://www.hack3r.org/ and join in on the wargames, haven't been there for roughly two years but hopefully it's still the same if not better.

w*w.try2hack.nl is like the same. There are 9 levels where you have to find a password. Mostly in vb programs,java applets, html source etc.

You can find the passwords for many of the levels on google.

But that takes out the fun.

hackthissite.org was good as a time waster, that is until one of the admins inadvertantly overwrote everyones passwords with his own, rendering all accounts useless.

Mine was one that was affected, and i hadn't visited the site for a month or so prior to this. All my email requests to change my password so i can use it again have been denied, so i just gave up.

I dont find the idea of doing 'hacking' challenges on a site that the admin routinely fucks up worthwhile, for some odd reason.
