Well, nothing new, Pierre is painfuly paranoid person, it's clear even from datarescue's forum messages. He takes every pirate copy of IDA as personal insult.

what an incredible bitch is that guy! i can't understand why he still works there. i won't ever buy IDA myself after reading this

So, my question, if you won't buy IDA, it's okay to pirate it as you are sticking it to them in the end? OR are you just fanning the fuel of someone that has been stating something akin to that the whole time?

Just curious, not looking for flaming in any capacity, just rational. I personally have a legal license to the product and utilize it extensively, especially now that the debugger is becoming extremely useful.

I would have to agree with Pierre, however. From his perspective, this Benjamin could very likely be using a pirated version. At any rate, IDA is still a great piece of software, and to not go and buy it because of this meaningless post is quite unlogical if you ask me.

I understand Pierre very well even if he is a bit rude at times.

If most of the guys were buying IDA rather than using cracked/carded releases (im not talking about crackers, but anyone), i think Pierre wouldn't have become like this with every one around.

Beside, Datarescue doesn't sell IDA to guys not working in a field that would explain the need of IDA. ie: Security etc.

This is because of the cracks and release.

Quite fun to read on a cracking's board that host a shitload of version of IDA , something like "do not to support Datarescue" )

You would have to work for a company that makes software or tests software for another company. Like stated in the post before, usually its used in security to check for holes in a app or system. I actually use IDA to dissasemble games. That way I can modify them to my liking.

For the hobbyists (like crackers) it might be expensive (how can they spend 300$ if they can't even afford a 5$ shareware ), but considering the fact that IDA is made for a more professional context (e.g. security, antivirus, as has been said before) I think it's an adequate price.. It's also a very special tool, as the majority of computer users doesn't even know about disassemblers. Thus the number of sold licences will be accordingly small, demanding a higher price.
I also understand that software vendors refuse to give support to people that use non-licensed software (this includes demo software..). Man big companies selling professional software only give support to customers having paid for support.

But this is a wrong attitude. And it's not true that this tool is especially used for security. Me for example, Im using this to find out how Windows API calls work, what they do and so on.
I added many features in my application because I found out how some thinks work in windows. On example is windows autologon without using plain text registry key "DefaultPassword". I disassembled TewakUi for this purpose and found the solution there.
